BEFORE: Three Missing Teeth AFTER: Three Implant Crowns Splinted Together
With Implants -MULTIPLE UNIT IMPLANT RETAINED RESTORATION
Individual implants that are adjacent to each other may be restored individually or splinted into one multi-unit restoration. Splinting is sometimes desirable when the individual implants placed are relatively short in length due of the amount of available bone. Splinting may also be desirable if the bone density is not ideal or if it is necessary to make a bridge (see X-ray at left).
For example if there are three missing teeth and it is only possible to place two implants, an implant bridge may be fabricated (see X-ray to the left). The space without an implant may be filled by a tooth which is attached on each side to an implant crown.
It is important that impeccable oral hygiene is practiced by the patient to keep the splinted implants clean.
